Five Ten Project

Soft… supple… sensitive…form fitting… No, we aren’t describing the latest and greatest prophylactic; we are describing Five Ten’s Project. This unlined asymmetrical beauty is built for strong seasoned feet and the steep climbing they crave. It’s down turned, tensioned heal with its single velco strap, secures the shoe to the foot, bowing the toes into the shape of a Gibbon’s paw, thus allowing the climber to use their feet like hands. This shoe is well suited for areas like the Red River Gorge where sweeping pocketed walls are the norm. The shoe’s incredible flexibility allow the toes to grab and pull, and the 2mm slab of Mystique rubber ensures this shoe will be sensitive right out of the box. The unlined split-grain upper will stretch so make sure to downsize these shoes several sizes. Climbers spending more of their time on plastic will find the Projects well suited for overhanging gym routes where the supple Projects will mold to the large footholds that typify gym routes and boulder problems. Where the Projects fall short is in their ability on technical face climbs. Here, the shoe’s sensitivity and unlined upper don’t provide the support needed to stand on micro nubbins. The lack of stability for technical face climbs is expected in a shoe as specialized as the Projects, and it is a small sacrifice to pay for those wanting the ultimate in performance on steep routes outside and within the confines of the gym.
