Paul Robinson has added another V14 to Hueco with the first ascent of The Gallows (V14) in the East Spur. His new problem is a low start to The Machinist (V13) which Paul climbed about a week ago. On his 8a scorecard he notes that the problem is 30+ moves out a roof and up a cool vert wall. UKClimbing reports that Austrian world cup legend Jakob Schubert had a really good, and really bad, day in Hueco. He started the day off with a 10-minute ascent of Crown of Aragorn (V13) then headed over for a flash attempt at Nagual (V13). He pulled it off (the third flash after Paul Robinson and Sean McColl) but at the 2nd to last move he “heard a loud noise” and hoped it was a hold breaking off. Unfortunately, it was his finger, possibly a pulley rupture though he doesn’t have a diagnosis yet. Jakob stated that it “doesn’t feel good” and that “it seems like this climbing trip is over.”
Best wishes to Jakob. It’s especially unfortunate because he was climbing really well, as usual. The day before his good/bad day was his first day in Hueco. UKC also says that on that day, he flashed a V11 and three V10’s as well as climbing three V12’s.
