The weather forecast: High 55°, low 35°, 60% chance of light showers throughout the day. The word early in the morning from event organizers Chad Wykle and Jim Horton is the comp will go on, rain or shine. The best beta given all day, get your 10 problems in early before the rain sets in.

The 8th annual Triple Crown Bouldering Series event at the Stone Fort went down this past weekend in less than favorable conditions. Stone Fort, also known as Little Rock City, is located on Montlake Golf Course in Soddy Daisy, TN. It’s always an interesting sight to see, seven school buses filled with rock climbers getting dropped off early in the morning at a golf course. Luckily for us, relations with Montlake Golf Course continue to grow stronger year after year.

Despite the conditions, the psyche was high and the competitors were sending hard. A little careful planning and local insight lead most climbers to the dry routes. Although, handfuls of stubborn boulderers still insisted in climbing the classics with water runnel top outs. (Yeah, there is a reason they’re wet). As the day progressed, the top outs became completely drenched and the competition was called early due to slightly dangerous conditions. Back at Urban Rocks Climbing Gym, nothing satisfies after a full day of climbing like burritos and a friendly pad stacking competition.

Once again, it’s the local hard men and women that take home the glory in the open (0verall) categories. Jimmy Webb and Kasia Peitras take first. Brion Voges and Holly Mcmullen take second. Who would have guessed? Fun was had by all, and thanks to all the great vendors, just about everyone went home with some swag. Here’s hoping for good weather next year!
