The bouldering season in Bishop is off to a strong start. Former testpiece problems seem to fall with ease these days as the next generation of strong boulderers has taken standards to new heights. The ladies in particular have put on a good show with two standout first female ascents.
Tilly Parkins of Australia nabbed the FFA of Stained Glass V10. This prized line in the Buttermilks was first climbed by Fred Nicole and is known for being powerful and very skin intensive. Tilly was able to fire the route shortly before heading home on what would have been her last try due to splitting a fingertip as she sent.
Even more impressive however is Alex Puccio's first female ascent of "A Maze of Death" V12. This incredible line, also located high in the Buttermilk country, was first climbed by Dave Graham in 2002 and some think it tcould be v13. She sent the route after four days of effort. This is Alex's fourth v12 and it has certainly solidified her standing at the top of the game. It seems to be just a matter of time before her first v13 goes down. Nice job Alex!
Look for Alex in the next issue of DPM (out Dec 15th) with exclusive video of her on Maze of Death!
