Idaho climber Matt Fultz has claimed the third ascent of Warpath (V14) at Castle Rock, Idaho. Warpath is a huge link-up of multiple V10 boulder problems in an area called the Taco Cave at Castle Rock which is located near the popular route climbing area City of Rocks. Much like Australia's Wheel of Life, which has seen some recent ascents, the problem requires expert level power-endurance throughout its length. When James Litz snagged the first ascent in 2007, the problem was considered to be potentially V15 and one of the hardest in the country. Years passed by as its reputation for difficulty grew until Daniel Woods got the second ascent in 2011. Daniel's ascent and Jimmy Webb's almost-ascent were presented in the film "A Fine Line" which you can purchase at HDclimbingvideos.com.
Matt Fultz has been the driving force in the development of hard Idaho bouldering over the past few years. He's added multiple V12 and V13 first ascents to the local bouldering areas of Reynold's Creek, Swan Falls and other off-the-beaten path Idaho areas. Warpath was Matt's first V14.
Matt has done a good job of keeping track of most of the recent bouldering development around Idaho on his blog Climbidaho.com. Read more about his ascent of Warpath here and scroll back through for some inspiring pictures and videos of the great bouldering Idaho has to offer. Stay tuned for video of Matt's ascent of Warpath which we'll be sure to link to as soon as he posts it. Congrats Matt!
