Live Your Dream: Apply Now for a Grant from the AAC

posted by dpm on 02/03/2014

The American Alpine Club is once again accepting applications for their “Live Your Dream” grant. The AAC is well known for providing grants to pro alpinists but the “Live Your Dream” grant is specifically targeted at the “everyman” climber. Dreams come in all shapes and sizes and not everyone has the ability, or desire, to summit a new Himalayan peak or alpine big wall. Maybe your dream is to go sport climbing in Greece, boulder in Rocklands, or climb a Yosemite Valley trade route? No dream is too big, or too small, and all applications are considered.

From the AAC website:

The purpose of the Live Your Dream grant is to support and promote unforgettable experiences for climbers—specifically, experiences that provide the skills and confidence to realize one’s climbing ambitions; to dream big, to grow as a climber, and to inspire others. The grant seeks to fund individuals or small teams of all ages and experience levels, as well as a range of climbing disciplines (including but not limited to: bouldering, sport & trad climbing, ice climbing, mountaineering, ski mountaineering, peak running, exploration—you name it). We encourage you to grab a friend or three, dream big, and send us an application.

The application period opens January 1st and closes March 1st.  Winners will be announced April 15th.  Grant awards will vary depending on the prospective project, but typically fall in the $200 to $1,000 range.

Past recipients include Kevin Ziechmann who was awarded a grant to go sport climbing at Smith Rock, Oregon. Click the image to see video from his trip.

Last year, two yahoos from New England dubbed themselves “The Sideboyz” and were awarded a grant to “Live Their Dream” of completing a girdle traverse of their home crag in Massachusetts. Read DPM’s full report on their outlandish adventure here.
