The Hörst family is back at it, making their first trip back to the Red River Gorge this weekend. This year, it was 10-year-old Jonathan's turn to send God's Own Stone (5.14a) making him possibly the youngest person to climb the grade. His older brother, Cameron, sent the route in early April of last year for his first 5.14.
Remarkably, after a winter season of training, Jonathan skipped over an entire number grade of difficulty. Last year, on the same early April trip that Cameron sent GOS, Jonathan ticked his first 5.13a, Skinboat at the Motherlode. He climbed a few more 5.13- routes over the summer in Ten Sleep, Wyoming but hadn't broken into the mid or upper-level 5.13 range. As his dad Eric said on Facebook, "J-Beast crushes!"
