Who would have thought that the small, backwoods town of Fayetteville, West Virginia would host the world's largest gathering of queer climbers? Mark your calendars because Homoclimbtastic has set the date for their fifth New River Gorge convention on July 17-21. Last year's gathering was a huge success in the eyes of participants and locals alike. Over 100 people turned out for the well-organized event to climb on the amazing routes of the New River Gorge. They group also hosted an auction to benefit the new American Alpine Club campground which they'll be doing again this year. As always, the fabulous Porsche Ferrari will be emceeing this fundraiser.

Gay, lesbian, queer, or just quirky, these folks are some of the kindest and most fun-loving the New River Gorge sees all year. The climbing community in Fayetteville, and local businesses like Waterstone Outdoors and DPM, welcome them back with open arms. Waterstone Outdoors, in particular, has gone out of their way to welcome the crew. Last year they put together a welcome video that is outrageous. As one HC member put it, "Fayetteville might be a small town, but holy crap, big hearts and open minds!" If you're interested in attending this year's event visit the Homoclimbtastic website for more information.
Homoclimbtastic has put together a 60-minute documentary on their group. It has been entered in both climbing and LGBT film festivals so watch for the full thing at your local film festivals. Click the image to watch the trailer.
