The holiday season is a relaxing break for some, but for others, it is a time to get down to business. This is when college kids hit the road to Hueco or other winter hot spots for premium temps and an elevated amplitude brought on by friendly competitive camaraderie. This week the globe was alive with strong climbers bringing on the ruckus.
The day after Christmas, Chattanooga local strong man, Jimmy Webb added Crown of Arogorn V14 (8b+) to his string of ascents in Hueco. This follows is ascents of Li V13 (8b), Barefoot on Sacred Ground V12 (8a+), Alma Blanca V13 (8a+/b), The Darkroom V11 (8a), and Diaphanous Sea V12 (8a+), all of which he completed this month!!!
Chris Sharma continues to carry his Sterling Rope to new heights, and his string of 5.15a (9a+) ascents is growing. This week, after missing a flight to the Canary Islands in typical Sharma style, Chris drove back to Santa Linya to polish off Directa Open Your Mind.
Daniel Woods elected to escape the winter migration to Hueco with friends Chad Greedy and Rob D'Anistasio. They opted to climb on the bullet sandstone at the Horseshoe Canyon Ranch in Arkansas.
There, with crux protected by his Organic crashpads, Daniel made the second ascent of Wood Grain Grippin, a steep V14 on an ominous block of sandstone, which sticks ship-like from the hillside.
He then repeated the gymnastic Chunk up the Duece V13, claimed the first ascent of Welcome to Fightclub V13, and Starburst Asis V11, and then repeated Anti Hero V13, which he nearly flashed.
