First Ascent of Centerfold (5.14b) by Joe Kinder

Joe Kinder has claimed the first ascent of Centerfold (5.14b) in the Virgin River Gorge’s Fossil Cave. The route was an old project bolted by Randy Leavitt, one of the most profilic first ascentionists of the region. What became Centerfold climbs directly out the center of the Fossil Cave and was the first line bolted there.

The route has a difficult (V9/10) boulder problem crux and finishes up with the final crux of Dinosaur (5.13c). It took Joe three days of work to send it and while he remarks on his blog that this ascent is neither “groundbreaking nor newsworthy” Centerfold was the last, currently bolted, project to fall at the VRG. A more in depth write up and excellent pictures can be found at www.joekindkid.com.
