Daniel Woods Slam Dunks Meadowlark Lemon (V14/15)

Daniel Woods has pulled off the fifth ascent of Meadowlark Lemon (V14/15) in Red Rock’s Gateway Canyon. He logged the problem on his 8a scorecard as low-end V14, a solid notch down from its proposed grade of V15. Daniel described the day:

Jimmy (Webb) and I warmed up in the sun, then made our way back into the "ice box," to meet up with Nalle and Bearcam at the Lark. Jimmy was so close on the flash, falling at the top. We all were able to put the moves together very quickly. A half hour later, I was standing on top. It took me 3 tries from the start including some time to work out the moves.

With Meadowlark Lemon, the area’s hardest problem, out of the way, Daniel noted on Instagram that it’s “time for some projects.” It sounds like Jimmy and Nalle will likely follow up with repeats soon and it could be a productive season for hard new bouldering in Red Rock.

Fun Fact: Did you know that Meadowlark Lemon was a basketball player that played with the Harlem Globetrotters for 25 years from 1955 to 1980? He was 6’3” tall, a whopping 9 inches taller than Daniel Woods; and speaking of Whoppers…Meadowlark Lemon was also a spokesperson for Burger King. Check out the old-school BK commercial below.
