Daniel Woods Grabs the Second Ascent of Jaws 2

As if answering the query posted in yesterdays’ news piece, Daniel Woods has bagged the second ascent of Jaws 2 (5.15a)

 

Jaws is an infamous route in Rumney, New Hampshire on the Waimea Wall, but after a hold broke a “newer” line was established. The “newer version” of Jaws also known as Jaws 2 was established by Vasya Vorotnikov. Vasya claimed the first ascent of the new line after the break occurred. It took him over 35 tries to piece together the new crux and he suggested 5.15a for the newer version of Jaws.

 

 

 After concluding his time at the Nor’ Easter event Daniel directed all his attention to the route and after 3 days of effort he was able to pull off the second ascent. Woods’ commented, “Hard route to grade and very specialized. The breakdown is a 2 move 8a+ (V12) for the first crux followed by a mini 12d into a 7c+ (V10) lurp dyno move. Both cruxes involve around one low percentage move each, the outro section is around 8a (5.13b). At first I thought 9a (5.14d) but after falling off the 2nd crux twice and having to fight in good conditions, I thought this could be harder.”  Daniel confirmed the grade of 5.15a.
