Climbing News: June Update

posted by dpm on 06/22/2010

Let’s get up to speed on a few things that have happened in the last week:

First off, Joe Kinder added a new 14b to an area being developed somewhere in Utah. For more information check out www.joekindkid.com

Shawn Raboutou (12), son of famed climber Didier Raboutou and Robyn Raboutou-Erbesfield redpointed his first 5.14 at St. Antonin Noble Val, in France. He had attempted the route, Attention on vous regarde  (8b+) three times last year, sending it on his first try of his third day. We are told his sister Brooke, (age 9) is incredibly close to sending her 13a (7c+) project as well.

The Red River Gorge Climbers Coalition has refinanced the loan on the Murray Pendergrass Preserve through the Access Fund saving them approximately $10,000 in interest and fees that can be invested in other projects that benefit the Red River Gorge climbing community. The refinance will also eliminate the risk of losing the property to a private third-party, since a missed annual payment under the previous seller-financed loan would have returned the property to the seller and the funds raised by climbers would have been lost.
