Big Day in Oliana for Lachat and Caprez

Swiss climbers Cedric Lachat and Nina Caprez had a great day in Oliana, Spain with respective ascents of Papichulo (5.15a) and Fish Eye (5.14b).

On her blog, Nina stated that after a healthy seafood dinner and two days of rest, she and her boyfriend Cedric were both able to complete their projects.  Nina sent first.  On her third try of the day she felt powered down but executed the moves flawlessly.  After quickly climbing the powerful lower section she found herself on the upper portion of the route ‘in her element’ on vertical terrain with small holds.

Motivated, and not to be outdone, Cedric had to pull it together.  Nina remarked, Well, as we know, Cédric is a real competitior. And when his little girl friend is able to climb really good on hard routes, he will do it as well! So he was searching all his energy he still had in his body and he did a perfect ascent of ‘Papi chulo’, 9a+ (5.15a).  Papichulo was first climbed by Chris Sharma and, somewhat remarkably with the lofty grade, this was likely the fifth ascent.

You may remember Nina from the excellent video “About a Girl” that was posted recently.  Click the image if you missed it!
