Basecamp Climbing Facility opens in Reno, Nevada

This Saturday, October 1st, is the long-awaited grand opening of the tallest climbing wall in the world.  Built by Entreprises in Reno, Nevada, this state of the art facility will feature a 164-foot climbing wall, 40 feet taller than the previous world’s highest in the Netherlands.  The bouldering area will also be world-class with 2900 square feet of overhanging bouldering surface.  Some of America’s top climbers, including Jon Cardwell, Dave Graham, Alex Johnson, Ian Dory and Emily Harrington, are coming out Saturday for clinics and demos at the grand opening.  Be there!

Two Industry Leaders Create World’s Tallest Competition Climbing Wall Plus

State-of-the-Art Bouldering Facility at CommRow

RENO, Nev. – On October 1, CommRow will reveal BaseCamp, a world-class climbing facility offering routes and boulder problems for everyone from first-timers to lifetime climbers. Enthusiasts seeking the world’s tallest climbing wall, multi-pitch lead climbing with huge exposure, state-of-the-art Flashed padded flooring, or a 15-meter competition speed wall will soon need to look no further than BaseCamp.

Climbing Wall

On the exterior façade of the 16-story building, the world’s tallest competition climbing wall rises 164-feet from a second-story deck. Designed by Entre Prises Climbing Walls, it’s more than 40-feet higher than its current rival in the Netherlands, and features:

·         World Championship competition area

·         Only official 15-meter speed wall in the United States

·         Multi-pitch climbing featuring two ledge-separated pitches per 50-meter route

·         Beginner- to expert-level routes        

·         Seventeen separate belay stations offering more than 40 top-ropable routes at any given time

·         A peak of 190 feet above street level for experienced climbers

Bouldering Facility

Vertical Solutions’ signature curved Baltic birchwood boulders will be found on CommRow’s second floor. The indoor facility will feature:

·         Two competition boulders rising more than 15-feet high

·         Problems for novice to expert climbers

·         3,600-square-feet of high-tech Flashed memory foam floor padding

·         More than 100 problems that will be reset every 60 days

·         2,900-square-feet of steep bouldering surface

·         Slacklines

·         Core fitness center

Vertical Solutions partner Dustin Buckthal remarks, “We jumped at the opportunity to design and build these two custom boulders within such a unique, high-end facility, and we’re really looking forward to see the project as whole come together. The selection of activities that will be available within the facility makes us wish we lived in Reno!”

CommRow, next to Downtown Reno’s landmark arch, will be the area’s first nonsmoking, nongaming urban adventure destination also featuring an eclectic array of eateries and bars, event space and two live performance venues. In addition to the pet-friendly HANG Hotel, an “Adventure Deck” providing BMX and skate parks, outdoor bouldering and more is also planned for 2012.
