The 2009 Mammut Bouldering Championships: Big, Bad and Back.

Big, Bad and Back! North America's pro climbing tour, the Mammut Bouldering Championships return May 29th & 30th at the Gravity Brawl Presented by Native Eyewear in Fairfield, NJ. Then, on July 20th & 21st the tour moves to Salt Lake City for the Mammut Bouldering Championships at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market.

Made possible by the renowned Swiss alpine sportswear and equipment manufacturer Mammut, the Mammut Bouldering Championships are North America's premier pro competition climbing series, featuring the top pros from around the world, thrilling finishes, unparalleled production value, and a party atmosphere that is unmatched at any other event, and continues to represent the cutting edge of competition climbing worldwide.

Since 2006, the nationwide Mammut Bouldering Championships has leveraged the fundamental American awareness of sport to raise the profile of climbing; building a sustainable platform for professional competition climbing in North America; supporting athletes by giving away more than any other event or series of events; and elevating our industry partners along the way.

The Gravity Brawl Presented by Native Eyewear

Kicking off at the New Jersey Rock Gym, The Mammut Bouldering Championships welcomes a new partner, Native Eyewear to present the Gravity Brawl on May 29th & 30th. Loud, proud and totally over the top, the Gravity Brawl Presented by Native Eyewear has always been the spiritual home of the Bouldering Championships, and with its gritty feel has been called the "Fight Club" of bouldering competitions. World class climbers, outrageous highball boulder problems, raucous capacity crowds and a non-stop party atmosphere create the most unlikely hotbed of cutting edge climbing: Northern New Jersey.

Already a sponsor of top athletes, including 2008 Mammut Bouldering Championships routesetter Jason Kehl, Native Eyewear sees the core values of its brand reflected in the climbing community: "Native is a proud sponsor of the 2009 Bouldering Championships and is psyched to make our introduction at an event as unique as the Gravity Brawl," said Jacqueline "Jax" Mariash, Native Eyewear Director of Marketing. "Native is all about finding your outdoor experience regardless of whether you're trapped in a city, the suburbs, or on top of a mountain, so an event like the Gravity Brawl is a perfect fit."

Past winners of the Gravity Brawl include Daniel Woods, Paul Robinson, Matt Bosley, Lizzy Asher, and Paige Claussen. The Gravity Brawl features a $5,000 cash purse and in past years has routinely sold out venue capacity.

The Mammut Bouldering Championships at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market

As the highpoint of the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, the world's best climbers will compete for pride and a huge cash purse at the industry's biggest gathering and the most important climbing competition of every year: the Mammut Bouldering Championships at Summer Outdoor Retailer.

Since 2007 the Bouldering Championships have rocked Summer OR, bringing in the largest crowds of spectators ever for a climbing competition in Salt Lake City. "We were overwhelmed by the support in our first year at Outdoor Retailer in 2007, and 2008 was just an outrageous success." says Pete Ward, co-organizer and co-founder of NE2C, the owners of the Bouldering Championships tour. "The entire OR community from the Nielsen company to The Front Climbing Club are fantastic partners in our efforts to introduce the largest possible audience to the excitement of competition bouldering."

"Last year's Bouldering Championship at Summer Market was, quite simply, the best climbing event I've ever seen," says Show Director Kenji Haroutunian.  "I was at the Snowbird comps in the early 90's, even competed once at a store sponsored event.... all part of the 'good ol' days' now that the BC is on the scene.  The excitement level was off the hook, and I was amazed at the professional production and the quality of the climbing challenge, and the climbers who took it on! I can't wait to witness the spectacle once again."

The unstoppable Chris Sharma has won the Mammut Bouldering Championships at Summer OR for each of the last two years despite being much older than the current top boulderers in the world. Top Americans Alex Puccio and 2008 world cup champion Alex Johnson won the event in 2008 and 2007 respectively.

The Mammut Bouldering Championships

"At NE2C we've always worked with Mammut to push the envelope for creativity and entertainment value in climbing competitions," says Ward, "We were the first to roll out live scoring online, our events constantly push new levels of production value and we continue to push for the next cool evolution of our sport. We are pumped to once again partner with Mammut for the 2009 Mammut Bouldering Championships and look forward to building on our track record for thrilling events."
